Dr. Keith Leggett | Senior Economist | ABA

Dr. Keith Leggett is a senior economist in the Office of the Chief Economist at the American Bankers Association. Prior to joining the ABA, Dr. Leggett was an Associate Professor of Economics at Davis & Elkins College. He also was on the faculty of Penn State University. Dr. Leggett's responsibilities at the ABA include analyzing the structure and performance of the banking industry; evaluating competitive threats posed by other financial services providers; monitoring conditions in the macroeconomy and in the credit markets.

Additionally, Keith Leggett received his Ph.D. from Georgia State University in economics and undergraduate degree from Mars Hill College. He also serves on the Board of Advisors at Mars Hill College.
He has published research in Journal of Agricultural Lending, ABA Banking Journal, The Cato Journal, Journal of Economics and Finance, Financial Services Review, Review of Financial Economics as well as other journals. Additionally, Dr. Leggett writes a featured column in Bankers News on credit union competition.

John Munn | Director of the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance

John Munn was appointed Director of the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance (NDBF) by Governor Mike Johanns in January, 2005, and continues as Director in the administration of Governor Dave Heineman. The Department supervises state-chartered financial institutions, registered and licensed financial entities including mortgage banking, delayed deposit service companies and the securities industry in Nebraska.

A native Nebraskan, Munn graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln, in 1970 with a B.A. in Education. He taught high school mathematics before beginning his 29-year Nebraska banking career. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of First National Bank and Trust of Syracuse at the time of his appointment as Director in 2005.

A graduate of the Colorado Graduate School of Banking (1980) and the American Bankers Association Trust School (1999), Munn was an instructor for and board member of the Schools of Banking, Inc., a joint venture of the Kansas and Nebraska Bankers Associations. He served the Nebraska Bankers Association as a board member and chair of its Government Relations Committee.

While Director of NDBF, Munn has served on the boards of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) and the Education Foundation of State Bank Supervisors. In 2008, Nebraska was one of the first seven states to participate in the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System created by CSBS and the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators.

Munn chaired the 2006 launch of the Nebraska Quarter, organizing corporate financial support and coordinating a state-wide educational effort and three launch celebrations. He is a board member of the Nebraska Educational Finance Authority, the Nebraska Electronic Transfer System and the Nebraska Enterprise Fund. He is also a member of the Advisory Board for the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Department of Banking, Finance and Law. Munn is a frequent speaker at Nebraska universities, discussing financial supervision with students and faculty and encouraging students to consider careers in the Nebraska financial industry and state government.

Munn was elected Chairman of the State Liaison Committee of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) in February, 2008, and represents state financial regulators on the Council.

Brad Brummund | VP of Corporate Banking | First National Bank

Brad Brummund is a Vice President of Credit and Risk with First National Bank of Omaha. He is in his 10th year with FNBO and 10th year in banking. His current responsibilities include oversight and direct handling of special assets for the Corporate Banking Group of FNBO, credit policy oversight and implementation and working with internal and external auditors and regulators. The majority of Brad’s career has been as a lender within the Community Banking and Corporate Lending groups, managing credit relationships from a couple million dollars to over $100,000,000. Brad has deep experience in handling bankruptcies and liquidations for the bank across numerous industries. Brad graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a BS/BA in Finance and Economics.

Dr. David Kohl | Ag Economics Professor Emeritus | Virginia Tech

David Kohl received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University. For 25 years, Kohl was Professor of Agricultural Finance and Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia. He was on special leave with the Royal Bank of Canada working on advanced initiatives for two years, and also assisted in the launch of the successful entrepreneurship program at Cornell University. Kohl retired from teaching in 2003 and is Professor Emeritus in the AAEC Department at Virginia Tech.

Kohl has traveled over 7 million miles throughout his professional career! He has conducted more than 5,000 workshops and seminars for agricultural groups such as bankers, Farm Credit, FSA, and regulators, as well as producer and agribusiness groups. He has published four books and over 1,000 articles on financial and business-related topics in journals, extension, and other popular publications. Kohl regularly writes for Ag Lender and Soybean Digest.

He has received 11 major teaching awards while teaching over 20,000 students, and 15 major Extension and Public Service awards from Virginia Tech, Cornell University, and state and national organizations. Kohl is a two-time recipient of the prestigious American Agricultural Economics Association's Outstanding Teaching Award. Kohl is only one of five professors in the 90-year plus history of the Association to receive the award twice. He received the Governor's award for his distinguished service to Virginia agriculture, the youngest recipient to receive this award.

Kohl has addressed the American Bankers Agricultural Conference for 30 consecutive years, and has appeared before numerous state bankers’ schools and conferences throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the world. He has also been one of the top rated instructors at the LSU and Colorado Graduate Schools of Banking, and is Chancellor of Farm Credit University, which has trained over 700 lenders using a online and face-to-face educational approach.

As facilitator of the United States Farm Financial Standards Task Force and member of the Canadian Agricultural Financial Standards Task Force, Dr. Kohl was one of the leaders in establishing guidelines for the standardized reporting and analysis of agricultural producers' financial information on a national and international basis. Recently, a $2 million endowed Chair of Agribusiness Management and Finance was established at Virginia Tech in the name of Dr. Kohl. This was in honor of his long-term commitment to teaching, research, and extension, and is one of only four such Chairs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech.

Kohl is currently President of AgriVisions, LLC, a knowledge-based consulting business providing cutting-edge programs to leading agricultural organizations worldwide. He is also business coach and part owner of Homestead Creamery, a value added dairy business in the Blue Ridge Mountains. On a more personal note, Dave enjoys playing basketball and likes most sports, farms, dogs, and covered bridges; he dislikes lazy students, administrative bureaucracies, and paperwork!
