Best Practices Break Out Sessions II

  • Break Out Session 4: LOS Systems: Myths & Realities

Neil Stanley | President | Bank Performance Strategies

Facing pressures from problem credits and greater regulatory scrutiny, banks are investing in Loan Origination Systems (LOS) to help better manage the credit analysis and ongoing management of their complex credits (i.e. commercial real estate, commercial and industrial, agriculture, small business loans, etc.). However, Neil Stanley, 25-year banking veteran and industry consultant, has found that many banks have a tough time with software selections and determining what they should really expect out of automating their lending process.

In this session, Neil will share valuable perspectives from his experience and research to help identify the technology “myths” and “realities” by outlining what lenders should expect from an automated LOS. Neil will provide information that will enable a bank to weed through the hype and focus on the things that will actually help leverage technology to gain efficiencies of throughput from your credit professionals.

  • Break Out Session 5: Loan Pricing: Maximizing profitability and Preparing for the next expansion

Dan Roderick | Managing Director | ProfitStars

What would an increase of 15 basis points in Net Interest Margin mean to your bank? On average, it could mean an additional $475,000 in net interest income per year over the past three years! Loan pricing is the most important decision you make every day but managing risk, staying current with regulatory requirements, maintaining operating efficiency and other pressing matters often distract management attention. How does your organization stay focused on the decision that will have the largest long-term impact on your bank’s financial performance? Learn how to drive profitable volume while also maintaining control, discipline and consistency in your pricing practice.

Ken Proctor

  • Break Out Session 6: Risk Management: Current Trends
    and Best Practices

Risk is the integral part of banking that drives earnings. High performing financial institutions are those who have embraced and learned to effectively manage risk.  In this informative session, participants will get an overview of the key risk issues facing banks today and learn how to  establish an effective enterprise risk management program, including:

  1. Understanding how an institution’s business objectives affect its risk environment
  2. Practical approaches for assessing and managing risk
  3. Methods and systems for monitoring and reporting on risk and
  4. Setting risk management roles, responsibilities and organization.

As former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan once noted, “It would be a mistake to conclude that the only way to succeed in banking is through ever greater size and diversity.  Indeed, better risk management may be the only truly necessary element of success in banking.”

Financial Reform Q&A Discussion

  • Matt Williams | President | Gothenburg State Bank and ABA Vice Chairman Elect
  • Bob Hallstrom | General Counsel | NE Bankers Association
  • Tom Gronstal | Superintendent of Banking | IA Division of Banking

The sweeping legislation represents a dramatic rewrite of the rules governing financial service providers and products and will usher in a new era of regulation -- for good and ill.

However, while its core provisions provide needed reform, the bill is overloaded with new rules and restrictions that will result in more than 5,000 pages of new regulations on traditional banks and years of uncertainty as to what the massive new rules will mean.

This session is designed to help you prepare for the onslaught of new rules by generating open dialog with you about the changes and some sage advice for you from our distinguished panel.
